Helianthus annuus L. (Sunflowers) is a plant of the Campanulaceae order, Asteraceae family, and Sunflower genus. Named after the inflorescence rotating with the sun. It is an annual tall herbaceous plant. The stem is thick and sturdy, 1-3 meters high, unbranched or sometimes upper branched, covered with white coarse hairs. Leaves alternate, ovate heart-shaped or ovate in shape, apex acute or gradually pointed, basal with 3 veins, margin with coarse serrations, both sides covered with short rough hairs, and long stalks. The inflorescence is extremely large, with a diameter of 10-30 centimeters, growing on the stem or branch end, often tilted. The bracts are multi-layered, with leaves that are ovate to ovate lanceolate in shape. The tips are gradually pointed and covered with long hairs or edge hairs. The flower stem is flat or slightly raised, with a nearly membranous stem. Most tongue shaped flowers, yellow in color, with open tongue segments, oblong ovate or oblong in shape, not sturdy Most of the flowers are tubular, brown or purple, with lanceolate lobes at the upper end, and bear fruit. The achene is oblong or ovate in shape, slightly flattened, with fine ribs, covered in white short hairs, and has two membranous coronal hairs at the upper end, which fall early.
