Taraxacum officinale. Dandelion seeds. Wishes. White wispy seeds are getting ready to take off and make more Dandelions. The seeds, which are technically a fruit are called cypselae. They are produced on the stem or stalk of the flower. Each seed represents one of the florets in the flower head. Each has a pappus, or a set of feathery bristles. These bristles act as sails or parachutes allowing the seed to float on the wind. Dandelions are perceived as weeds by many; medicinal, useful, herbal plants by others.
