Cleome rutidosperma, commonly known as fringed spider flower or purple cleome, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Cleome of the family Cleomaceae, native to tropical Africa. This species is an invasive weed throughout most lowland wet tropical areas of Asia and Australia. It is a very common weed of lawns. In some parts of the world, including Africa and India, the leaves are edible and used as a food known as "sag". The plant has also been used in traditional medicine for various purposes, including treating inflammation, convulsions, and malaria, although these uses have not been scientifically validated through human or animal studies.
