The Holy Dormition Pskov-Pechersk Monastery is one of the largest and most famous monasteries in Russia with a long history. The name of the monastery is associated with the caves located in it, called `God-built` that is, created by God. In 1473, the cave church of the Assumption of the Mother of God, excavated by St. John in a sandstone hill, was consecrated here. The hill where the Assumption Church and the God-made caves are located is called the Holy Mountain. The monastery has never been closed in its entire history. In 1995, a wooden church was consecrated in honor of the Pskov-Pechersk monks
