| The Chinese ground orchid is easy-to-grow and a real curiosity that will delight your friends and family. In spring and early summer it sends up arching stems of pink-mauve flowers that look similar to the Cattleya orchid; B. striata var. alba is a white variation. Each shoot can have up to fourteen flowers and an established clump can have literally dozens of flower spikes. Unlike most tropical orchids Bletilla has attractive foliage and the pleated, tapered leaves look very similar to the juvenile leaves of many palm species and reach 20 to 30cm tall. |
