A Baroque sofa is one of the most expensive and elite pieces of furniture. It is characterized by massiveness, intricate curvature of shapes and lines. Wavy backs, legs, smoothly tapering downwards, large, cozy and very soft seats, as well as convex armrests give the sofa richness, sophistication and grandeur, but at the same time incredible lightness and airiness. Complex carving, gilding, inlay with precious materials are used as decoration. Durable oak, cherry, yew, chestnut wood is used to make sofas. The upholstery is made of expensive decorative fabrics, trimmed with ornate fringe. Satin, brocade and velvet are most often used. In most cases, upholstered furniture in the Baroque style stands on high carved and curved legs made of natural wood. Such furniture creates an atmosphere of luxury and is reminiscent of the decoration of the palaces of European kings of the 16thâ18th centuries.
