This is a picture of the journey of Odysseus` ship through the waters of the six-headed sea monster, Scylla, and the churning waters of the whirlpool, Charybdis. It illustrates the classic idiom `Between a Rock and a Hard Place`. Odysseus was forced to decide between the lesser of two evils - to have his ship swallowed by Charybdis or risk being attacked by Scylla. He chose to steer clear of the whirlpool and as a result, six of his men were eaten by the sea creature. |
