Canal bridge with a view from the water to the next bridges. Today Amsterdam has 1 539 bridges 252 of which are in the city center. All Amsterdam bridges have a bridge number. Number 1 is the bridge (Muntsluis) from the Muntplein over the Singel. From there the bridges are numbered over the Singel the Grachtengordel and in circles further to the suburbs. The thousandth bridge in Amsterdam was opened in 1973 and is located across the Westlandgracht near the Rembrandtpark. Bridge number 2000 is the Jan Schaeferbrug which lies across the IJhaven. The bridges on IJburg are numbered from number 2001 (Enneüs Heermabrug taken into use in 2001)
