The cereal leaf beetle, Oulema melanopus, is a significant crop pest. It eats almost all cereals, but has a strong affinity for oats, barley and rye, and its preferred host is wheat. Physical symptoms on grain are thin, long lines because the beetle has eaten the upper epidermis of the leaf.
