Pictured is the information plaque for an eight foot replica of a horse that Leonardo da Vinci was commissioned to create by the Duke of Milan in 1482. It was to be the largest equine statue in the world, but da Vinci`s clay model was destroyed by invading French soldiers in 1499. In 1977 Charles Dent set out to complete the horse, and financed sculptor Nina Akamu whose replica was unveiled in Milan, Italy, in 1999. In addition to the 24 foot horse in Milan there are smaller replicas in four locations, including this one in Southlake, Texas.
