|The Hereford has long been the icon of the cattle industry. Large framed, dark-red bodies with their trademark white faces, Herefords populate cattle pastures the whole world over. One would be hard pressed to find a more resilient and overall outstanding breed of beef cattle which has so totally conquered the cattle industry. They are known for their vigor and longevity, many female living and producing calves beyond the age of 15 years. Bulls are capable of staying profitable at stud until the age of 12 or more. Mature males may weigh up to 1,800 pounds while mature females may weigh around 1,200. They are muscular, large in size, trim and smooth.
