The original castle dates from the 12th century. Its size was at the time much larger than that of the current castle, and was then one of the largest medieval estates in the area, owned by a French noble family. Heavily damaged in the 17th century during the Thirty Years' War, the castle was never managed to retain only one tower and one wing while the surrounding villages were pillaged by Croatian mercenaries called "Cravtas" at the time. Restored by successive generations, emptied of all its possessions during the Terror, the castle found a new aspect in the 19th century when the heiress of the estate, the Countess of Oryot-Apremont married the Count of Nettancourt-Vaubécourt which allowed a contribution sufficient capital to add a new main building around 1873 and restore the existing rooms. The Château de Thillombois remained within the Nettancourt-Vaubécourt family until 1961.Acquired in 1961 by the municipality of Mantes-la-Ville (78), it became a holiday camp center. The center fell into disuse in the 1980s. It was left to its fate until the beginning of the 1990s, when it was rented by the cultural association Connaissance de la Meuse. The latter restores it, furnishes it and brings it to life thanks to different events. In 2010 the association became the owner, so that this building remains in the public domain.
