| The Knights Templar settled in Ponferrada in 1178 thanks to King Fernando II of León. The chosen place was a small Roman fortress that rose above the city and that had been built on an old Celtic fortress.
Ponferrada Castle is located in the Spanish city of Ponferrada, El Bierzo region, León province. It stands on a hill at the confluence of the Boeza and Sil rivers. |
