One train on the passing loop part of the track of the Cairngorm's Mountain Railway which is Scotland's only mountain railway or funicular. It is at 635m above sea level and is the highest railway journey in the UK with visitors travelling on a two kilometre trip from the Base Station to the Ptarmigan Top Station, which is 1,097m above sea level and just below the summit of the mountain itself. It is used in the winter to transport skiers to the slopes and in the summer for hikers and walkers and people visiting the Ptarmigan restaurant.
