The natural reserve of Rio Blanco is located in central Chile, in the Andes range and close to the border with Argentina. It is not far from the Aconcagua, the highest peak in the range. The reserve protects a good representation of the andine High Mountain and Chilean Matorral biomes, and harbors a high biodiversity, being especially rich in plant endemisms. However, it is close to a large copper mining site. In the past there have been several events of pollution caused by mine tailings spilled on the Blanco river.rn
