An old NW Norfolk and Western caboose is shown on static display in a small USA southern town. NW became a part of Southern railway in 1980. The company is now known as Norfolk Southern. US railroad law once required a caboose on every train to house the conductor and protect him from the weather, but they began to disappear in the 1980`s with changes in technology and law. End-of-train devices have now completely replaced cabooses in the US. |
