Designed in part by American race car driver Carroll Shelby, the car was built by British Rootes Group as the Sunbeam Alpine Roadster. It was unique in that it was initially powered by a 260 C.I. V-8 built by Ford. Later models had the high performance 289 C.I. Ford V-8. The gearbox was a four speed manual.
