In the dunes and woodlands northwest of the village of Santpoort in the Netherlands lies Brederode Castle. It was built in 1282 by Willem van Brederode. Its function was to control the through road to the Kennemerland. Many times the castle was destroyed and rebuilt. The ruins are mirroring into the moat.
