The first written mention of Bojnice dates back to 1113, when the Zobor documents mention Bojnice Castle and its sub-settlement `de suburbanis Baimoz ...`. The documents mention the parish building, the church was documented in 1244, which confirms the position of the city as a center of religious life in Upper Nitra. The town`s privileges were confirmed by King Louis I of Bojnice in 1366, which confirmed the right to slaughterhouses, mill, spa and jarmic law, thus promoting the development of trade and crafts.
