Old historic Victorian houses are not hard to find in San Francisco. But this particular house at 3841 18th Street, built in 1886, has some very unique features. During the 1970`s it was a hippie commune, not unusual for San Francisco. The summer of 1971 a brother and sister musicians from Paris were invited to come and visit by a friend of theirs. On returning home Maxime Le Forestier wrote and recorded the song `La Maison Bleue` which became a big hit throughout France. The four people named in the song were the real names of real people who were living there at the thime Maxime visited. And thanks to the French paint manufacture Ressource, it is back to the original bleue color. A plaque just above the garage on the left side was added, describing it connection to France culture. The house is now used by a family and dog shelter, so it is still commune like, for all the dogs now there.
