The newly hatched turtle shells found on the southern shoreline of Lake Ontario are likely from the Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina). Or possibly the Blanding's Turtle, the Northern Map Turtle, Painted Turtle, or from the Eastern Box Turtle. Turtles are ectothermic, which means their body temperature is dependent on the environment and usually hatch from 55-90 days.
