In the border area between Thailand and Malaysia historically there was a story of black dragons,these proved to be a Black water monitor (Varanus salvator macromaculatus),a population of melanistic water monitors that are also known as Varanus komaini.These are giant lizards and actually in the top 3 of the world. Apex predators they hunt fish,crustaceans,mammals,reptiles and will eat carrion. Endangered due to monitor leather trade and as pets. |
