| Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus. It is the largest vulture in Europe. Males and females are of the same color. Its head is light colored and has dark spots on it. The spots around the eye and on the back of the head and the wattles are brown-violet. It feeds on carrion. Its wide flight range, apparent dominance over its competitors and its tendency to spread give it an advantage over other species. Despite this, it is in a serious struggle for life due to its limited and irregular food sources and variable weather conditions. It usually starts breeding at the age of 5-6 and forms scattered colonies. It builds its large nest, where it lays a single egg, on the tops of pine, oak and juniper trees. |
