Benjamin Netanyahu has served twice as Prime Minister of Israel. His first government was from 1996 to 1999. His second government, a right-wing coalition, was formed in 2009 and continues until the present (2012). Bibi as he is nicknamed, speaks flawless American-accented English. He received a high school education in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Binyamin (his Hebrew name) Netanyahu went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as both an undergraduate and a graduate student, earning a BA in architecture and an MA in business. Netanyahu is a veteran of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He has served Israel as Ambassador to the United Nations. He is Chairman of the Likud Party and has held the portfolios of Foreign Minister and Finance Minister. This photo was taken in the Prime Minister's personal office in Jerusalem prior to a cabinet meeting on July 20, 1997.
