Juyanhai is the tail river of the Heihe River, the second largest inland river in China. The Heihe River Basin originated in the depths of the Qilian Mountains and flowed through Qinghai, Gansu and Inner Mongolia provinces more than 800 kilometers. It merges into two Gobi depressions on the northwestern edge of the Badain Jaran Desert, forming two large lakes, East and West, collectively known as Yanhai. Juyanhai is located in the northern part of Ejina Banner, Alashan League Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It has a long, narrow shape, like a new moon. The Ejina River flows into the lake and is the main source of water for Juyan.
