This is the beach, or lower lighthouse, on the sea front at Fleetwood, Lancashire. This guiding light was built with its counterpart, the Upper or Pharos light. (see file id 25993627) Ships and boats, approaching the port of Fleetwood, via the Wyre estuary, in the dark, had to keep the lights from both lighthouses perfectly vertical, to make a safe navigation. First lit on the 1st December 1840.
