| Pictured is the Basilica of Saint Lawrence on Haywood in Asheville, North Carolina. In 1905 the design of the architect Rafael Guastavino went into construction and was completed in 1909. Its dome is reputed to be the largest, freestanding elliptical dome in North America. It is the only basilica in western North Carolina. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is an active Roman Catholic Church. |
