During the year 1225 under the bishop Henrich von Thun a bridge over the Rhine was built, part in wood part in stone. It connects the two halves of the Swiss city of Basel and it was for centuries the only bridge over the Rhine between the lake of Constance and the sea. It ensured economical success to the City of Basel for most of the Midlle Age.
