| The Basel Herbstmesse, the largest and oldest fun fair in Switzerland, takes place in late Autumn. With its traditions going back more than 540 years and its special customs, the Herbstmesse is part of the living cultural heritage of the city, like the ââ¬ÅEinlautenââ¬Â and ââ¬ÅAuslautenââ¬Â (ringing in and ringing out). As a traditional city centre trade fair, its fame reaches well beyond the three-country area, and always attracts around one million people to Basel from home and abroad. The charm of this popular festival also certainly lies in the fact that it is also of enormous importance for the people of Basel. |
