The city is in the north-east of Bulgaria, the administrative center of the community of Balchik, Dobrich region. Located on the Black Sea coast, near the resort of Albena and 47 km from Varna. Balchik reports directly to the community and has its own Kmet. The population is 11.6 thousand people.
