The Munich U-Bahn began operation in 1971.[1] It is operated by the municipally owned Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (the Munich Transport Company) or MVG. The network is integrated into the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (the Munich Transport and Tariff Association) or MVV and interconnected with the Munich S-Bahn system. The Munich U-Bahn system currently comprises eight lines, serving 96 stations (100 stations if four connecting/transfer stations are counted twice), and encompassing 95 kilometres of routes.
