A Pied Avocet or in latin Recurvirostra avosetta is captured in flight, seen from directly behind, as it leaves the central frame and skims low over the water of a lagoon in the Donana National Park marshlands. The photograph clearly highlights the striking and distinctive black and white wing pattern which is characteristic of the species in flight, with prominent white primary feathers bordered by black. In the background, four other Avocets are visible wading, showcasing their typical habitat preference for shallow, open, and often saline water bodies.
