Kobern-Gondorf is a double village in lower Mosel valley, Untermosel. Both villages had their castles. Weird enough the one in the valley is called Oberburg and the one on the hill Niederburg. The names refer to the location in relation to the river flowing direction. The Oberburg is a castle you can drive through with car, truck, bus etc. and the waterfront part of Schloss von der Leyen (old writing von der Lay).
