Detail of the Great Wall or the Fireproof Wall from the Forum of Augustus and of Via di Tor de Conti in Rome Italy. The wall was constructed toward the Suburra in the Forum of Augusts in Rome, Italy. The entire complex of the Forum of Augustus is in fact bound in by a massive wall made of blocks of peperine, gabine and travertine stone, the tallest segment being 33 meters high. It protect the forum from the Suburra, the neighborhood just behind it which was over-populated and subject to frequent fires due to the widespread presence of wooden structures there.
