Although the very first Automated Teller Machine, ATM for short, was first invented in 1960 and in America, it could only accept cash or check deposits, it could not do withdrawals, so was not very popular. The first cash dispensing machine came out in 1967, at a Barclays Bank in North London. Initially only for banks, by the 1980's, private businesses could also purchase their own ATM machines for the convince of their customers, as seen with this ATM sign and machine outside a local business. |
