Pictured is a statue of King Akhenaten on display in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization NMEC in Cairo, Egypt. He was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh reigning 1351 - 1334 BC. Before the 5th year of his reign he was known as Amenhotep IV. Akhenaten means `Effective for the Aten`. He was noted for abandoning Egypt`s traditional polytheism and introducing Atenism, or worship centered around Aten.
