The Arch of Constantine is a triumphal arch in Rome dedicated to the emperor Constantine the Great. The arch was commissioned by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine`s victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312. The Arch of Constantine is located along the Via Triumphalis in Rome, and it is situated between the Flavian Amphitheater better known as the Colosseum and the Temple of Venus and Roma. This location was significant, as the arch was a highly visible example of connective architecture that linked the area of the Forum Romanum or Roman Forum to the major entertainment and public bathing complexes of central Rome.
