| This is a Summer picture of the historic anchor of the Madeira on exhibit at the Split Rock Lighthouse located in Beaver Bay Township, Minnesota in Lake County. The Madeira was a 5000 Tom steel barge that sank after striking Gold Rock Point on Lake Superior on November 28, 1905. As a result of this tragedy the U.S. Congress authorized funds for the building and manning of the Split Rock Lighthouse which began operating in 1910. This picture was taken on August 11, 2018. |
