Amphitrichous bacteria are a type of bacterial cell that possess flagella at both ends of their cell body. These flagella enable them to move in a manner similar to a corkscrew, allowing for efficient locomotion through liquid environments. This characteristic is different from monotrichous bacteria, which have a single flagellum, and peritrichous bacteria, which have flagella distributed all over their surface. Amphitrichous bacteria are relatively less common compared to monotrichous and peritrichous bacteria. Examples of amphitrichous bacteria include certain species of the genus Spirillum and some strains of Vibrio.
