San Franciscos Allyne Park is named in honor of the sisters Edith and Lucy Allyne whose paternal family originally owned much of the surrounding land, and their grandfather, Ephraim Burr was the ninth mayor of the city, built a fine house on the land for his daughter, their mother Mary. Because the sisters never married, when they died there was much squabbling over converting their home into condos, which caused a lot of uproar from the whole community. In the end, the city purchased the land with home, tore down the house leaving the garden, producing the nice open space. Since the sisters were members of the Colonial Dames of America, who own the adjacent Octagon House, part of the land was also donated to them for the museum. The one thing left uncertain is when and why the wood fence was added. As seen 16 November 2022.
