Alioto's restaurant goes back to 1898 when a young Nunzio Alioto left his family in Sicily, Italy, for the rich fishing shore of San Francisco. Setting up a simple fish stall on the lumber wharf to sell directly to the working people, this grew into the Alioto`s Restaurant, now into its fourth family generation, the oldest family run restaurant in San Francisco. And the lumber wharf grew into Fisherman`s Wharf. Between the Pandemic and the Port of San Francisco cancelling their lease early, the restaurant is now permanently closed as of April 2022, after nearly one hundred years.
