| Surrounded by a complete monastic farm comprising of a Bailiff`s house, dovecote, fish ponds and an excellent 170ft Long Barn. Battle Abbey built these facilities between 1066 and 1536. Alciston is a parish of 2090 acres lying to the north of the South Downs, between Firle to the west and Berwick to the east.
The manor of Alciston, and most of the parish, has had only two owners since 1066, a continuity which has produced an astoundingly full set of records, held at The Keep |
