| Built in 1917 as a Shriners Temple is the reason this building in downtown San Francisco has a very Islamic temple look. Used by the Shriners for their meetings until 1970, it then functioned as a small theater. After the Alcazar Theater on O`Farrell closed, the second by that name, and torn down in 1961, this temple took the Alcazar name in 1976. After being gutted in 1982, it was reopened in 1993, after being designated a city landmark in 1989. |
