| Ajanta in India, in the state of Maharashtra, a Buddhist temple and monastery cave complex. It is a cliff in the shape of a horseshoe with 29 caves. They are divided into two main types: chaitya and vihara, a dormitory for Buddhist monks. The wall paintings of the caves are world famous. The paintings, preserved in fragments, are illustrations of Buddhist legends and myths, but in essence they reveal a panorama of social life in all its diversity. |
