Pictured are four African bush elephants walking from the bush across a beach toward the Chobe River in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. A mother is being followed closely by her calf and two other elephants. The elephants are headed to the nearby river to drink. Elephants drink around eleven gallons of water a day, and the herd visits this beach often. Elephants are herbivorous and will eat as much as 660 pounds of leaves, twigs, fruit, bark, grass and roots a day. The binomial name is Loxodonta africana. They were photographed from the Chobe River on a safari boat from the historic Chobe Game Lodge.
