Rimetea, in Hungarian Torocko, is the village of residence of the commune of the same name in Alba County. Located in the north of the Trascau Depression, at an average altitude of 550 meters, Rimetea is surrounded by mountain massifs higher than 500 - 600 meters and is crossed from north to south by the Rimetea river. The citizens of the locality valued their architectural heritage (mainly the houses built in the 17th-19th centuries), renovated the heritage in favor of replacing the old buildings with new ones and kept it undisturbed by the new urban interventions. Thanks to the conservation efforts made by the locals and the NGOs involved in the project, in 1999 the town of Rimetea was awarded the European Commission's Europa Nostra award for the preservation of tangible cultural heritage. In October 2000, the National Office of Historical Monuments designated Rimetea as a protected architectural and urban area.
