Sant Antimo, Castelnuovo Abate Montalcino church and secular olive tree. Val d Orcia Tuscany, Italy, Europe - Sant’Antimo is an ancient abbey inhabited by Benedictine monks over the centuries. The present church was built at the beginning of the 12th century, but the origins of the Abbey are much older. The legend traces the foundation of Saint Antimo to the ninth century, at the time of the Holy Roman Empire, led by the emperor Charlemagne, considered the founder of a chapel, called the Carolingian Chapel, corresponding to the current sacristy.
