Abandoned beehive coke plant in Shoaf, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. This is in the Connellsville Coalfield south of Uniontown. In these ovens coal was baked into coke to be used in the production of iron and steel. The red coal tipple is on the left and the stone coke ovens are on the right. This was the last beehive coke plant operating in Pennsylvania when it was shut down in 1972 due to new air quality regulations.
