On 18 April 1906 San Francisco was rocked to her very core by a very devastating earthquake and subsequent fire. As the city rebuilt physically, she also needed to rebuild morally. With the Pan Pacific International Exhobition approaching, a warm-up race was proposed, and the first `Cross City Race` was born, 1 January 1912. This `Cross City Race` starts at the San Francisco Bay in the North East part of the city and winds its way through as much of the city as possible, ending at the Pacific Ocean Breakers in the very West part of the city. The Bay to Breakers of off and running, or walking if you prefer. Costumes are welcome. This years 12K; 7.46 mile race was won by Philemon Cheboi with a time of 35:41. By comparison the first race winner, Bobby Vlught finished with 44:10.
