In one of the South African cultures, young men are forced to go through a rite of passage. This involved spending a few weeks in the middle of no where in the bush, where they are stripped down and given only a blanket, and they have to survive and fend for themselves. At the end of this period they undergo a circumcision ceremony where they are declared to be men amongst their peers.
